Bushakan

Made Simple

The goal was to make a glasses stand.

We wanted to make something that was solid.

We wanted something that everyone would be happy to have on their desk or shelf.

Have you ever seen the inside of an Ikea table or shelf?

Neither had we.

We have nothing against Ikea products.  They serve a purpose.

But, we wanted to make something that you could see through.

We wanted to make something honest.

FYI, this is the mystery meat in an Ikea shelf: cardboard.

Auspicious Beginnings

It all started with a post on Zaarly.

I wanted to give my husband a unique gift that was also practical.  It then occurred to me that his recent obsession with Warby Parker glasses was leading to a messy, "where are my glasses?" apartment.  I scoured the internet for a classy glasses stand, and the best I could find was a plastic nose that held one pair of glasses.  So, I turned to Zaarly, and placed a request for a wood, multi-pair eyeglass stand.  Tobi responded, although he had never made one before, and built the first Bushakan product.  The very first stand had 7 pockets:

My husband was so excited about his gift that he shared a photo of the stand with his friends.  The response was so positive that Tobi and I decided "what the heck, let's help people out."  And, so Bushakan was born.
